Back

Simos Konstantinou was born in Athens, Greece and since 2008 has lived in the city of Florina in Western Macedonia. He is a first year student at Democritus University of Thrace in the Department of History and Ethnology.

From an early childhood Symeon became involved with traditional dance since both of his parents (Yannis and Hra Konstantinou) are well known traditional dance teachers who’ve organized the annual Greek Traditional Dance Seminar that takes place in the Prespa region since 1986. This Seminar is one of the most significant events on the subject of cultural activities in Western Macedonia.

Symeon is the grandson of Simos Konstantinou, an outstanding dancer (Tanec, Dora Stratou and other groups) and dance teacher, who helped Symeon develop high levels of love and respect for the rich local traditions in the regions of Florina and Western Macedonia.

As a member of the Association of Greek Traditional Dances (“Lygkistes”), Symeon has participated in numerous performances and festivals in Greece and abroad, including Bulgaria, Poland, the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Albania, and North Macedonia.

Since 2014 he has developed a great deal of interest in traditional music, particularly in percussion, (daouli, toumbeleki, dajre, etc.), studying and practicing all kinds of rhythms of Greek music, especially those of Western Macedonia.
