Beate Fischer began folk dancing in the 1990s after traveling for years to the Greek Islands on vacation. As she traveled more often to Greece, she became fascinated with the Greek language and culture. Upon returning to her home in Augsburg, Germany, she found a Foreign Workers’ club that met at the local community center where she initially learned many of her favorite Greek and Balkan dances from people who were natives. Only later did she begin learning dances by going to recreational folk dance workshops.

In 2014 Beate took over the local international folk dance group in Augsburg, and this changed her focus from dancing with natives to attending workshops learning from master teachers such as Theodosis Diskos from Edessa Greece and Gergana Panova from Sofia Bulgaria. Beate is now teaching Greek and Balkan dance workshops throughout Bavaria in addition to leading a weekly International Folk Dance group in Augsburg
