"ETHNIC DANCE 101: Your DOOR-way to beginning ethnic dance"

What does a Bulgarian dance look like? And feel like? Or a Bretan dance? Or a Serbian, Armenian, Icelandic, Kenyan, Turkish, Greek…?

Or….how many easy ethnic dances can there possibly be? (Looking to expand your repertoire?)

The 2025 Door County Folk Festival invites everyone to find out first-hand the answer to these questions by attending our brand-new Ethnic Dance 101 sessions.

Try out a few dances from a variety of cultures in a fun, friendly atmosphere! No dance experience necessary. No age limitations. No complicated steps. No partners. No judging, lol.

Ethnic dances were once done by villagers as a form of social interaction reflective of their cultures and traditions. Thus, the dances were do-able by all!

Our knowledgeable Ethnic 101 dance session leaders will guide you through the fundamental steps and rhythms of a variety of user-friendly ethnic dances, while also providing interesting cultural commentary. No matter your ability, you will leave each session having done several dances of diverse cultures. And you’ll feel world-wise.

With SIX sessions to choose from—each one containing different sets of dances—even our experienced instructors themselves may not know some of the dances being done by other session instructors.
