Kees Burgwal has been dancing since the mid- seventies when he was a college student. Kees and his wife Ria met at folk dancing. For a few years he was part of a performing group, but he found that he preferred recreational dancing. When Kees and Ria had kids, they stopped dancing for a while, but started up again in 2000.

Kees and Ria enjoy dancing in international environments and whenever he is abroad for work or holidays, he likes to try to dancing at local clubs. During the pandemic they’ve really discovered Zoom-dancing and have made a number of global connections.

One of the most significant global connections Kees made was at a post-dance discussion following one of the Virtual Dance Room’s ”Late Night Global Dance After-Parties” where he mentioned that he was interested in finding some video editing projects to do for folk dance groups.

Kees took on the task of reviewing over 30 years of videos from the Door County Folk Festival and transformed them into the marvelous series of video compilations shown at the 2021 Festival.
