April 2011 was a very sad month as we lost two very wonderful people who were key members of the International Folk Dance and Door County Folk Festival communities.

Warren Kubitschek (October 6, 1954 - April 3, 2011) South Bend Tribune - Warren N. Kubitschek, 56, of South Bend, died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday (April 3, 2011) at Regency Place in South Bend. He was born Oct. 6, 1954, in Chicago, to Herbert and Jenny (Groot) Kubitschek. On May 21, 1977, in Grinnell, Iowa, he married Catherine Ann Glass. She survives along with his mother, Jenny Kubitschek of Downers Grove, IL; a brother, Craig (Missy) Kubitschek of Indianapolis, IN; and two sisters, Carolyn (David Lansner) Kubitschek of Brooklyn, NY, and Wendy Culp of PA. Warren was employed by the University of Notre Dame as an Associate Professional Specialist. He enjoyed folk dancing. There will be no visitation or services and cremation will take place. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements. |
Nancy Yugo (September 28, 1946 - April 8, 2011) Early Friday morning, April 8, 2011, our dear Nancy Yugo advanced to the next episode of her journey, a change she explicitly accepted. Always pursuing a spiritual quest, Nancy expressed quiet but firm confidence that she would be moving on to another place, where she hopes to resume dancing and gardening as soon as conveniently possible. She passed peacefully and gently, in comfort among family and friends offering song, music, and verse. At the very end, she allowed me the privilege of sharing all the subtle shadings of her gradual shift from here to there. Her request for a fully green burial was honored Saturday in perfect spring weather. She is resting among oak trees high on the side of a magnificent valley in a nature preserve southwest of Madison, facing the westering sun. The deer will visit at night to pay their respects and enjoy the cut flowers. Later in the spring, when the season sweetens, there will be an outdoor memorial gathering, as she requested. Nancy is at peace, and so may we be. -- Michael Kuharski. |
