Dear Performing Artist: (top)

Thank you very much for your inquiry about the Door County Folk Festival (DCFF).  The Festival begins on the Wednesday following Independence Day (July 4th) .  The Door County Folk Festival (DCFF) is one of the most fun-filled, enjoyable and educational dance weekends held in the Midwest.  Each year, the DCFF attracts between 250 and 350 participants to Door County, Wisconsin, from all around the U.S., Canada and often other countries. - Click Here for an Overview of DCFF

The Door Peninsula, mid-America's favorite vacation area, is located in north east Wisconsin between Green Bay and Lake Michigan.  Door County, often alluded to as "the Cape Cod" of the Midwest, has something for everyone, including: sandy beaches, rocky shores, scenic hiking trails & vistas, bike trails, canoeing, sailing & boating, state parks, fishing, "pick your own" orchards, guided and self-guided scenic tours, museums, art galleries, music & theater, water sports, golf, unique shopping opportunities, an outdoor drive-in movie park, and a large selection of restaurants including one with "goats on the roof".

The DCFF is a 5-day event that primarily features participatory activities including workshops in:

  • Ethnic Folk Dance
  • Ethnic Folk Music
  • Ethnic Folk Singing
  • Traditional American Contra & Square Dance
  • Argentine Tango, Swing & Lindy Hop & Other Dance Forms
During the first few years of DCFF, there were a number of concerts where participants would "sit down" to watch performers on stage.  In the early 1980s, the formal concert events were discontinued and the Festival format was changed to be more oriented towards active participation in Dance, Singing and Music Workshops and Dance Parties.

In 2003 & 2004, DCFF tried to revive a "sit down" Music Concert, as an alternative event on Saturday evening. Due to the festival attendees preference for participatory activites, this concert event was discontinued in 2005.

DCFF has already booked the dance orchestras and music and singing instructors for the 2017 festival, so there is little chance that we would need to hire additional staff.

Please refer to the organizations below in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana that might be good contacts for your performances.

Sincerely,
Paul Collins
