"Let’s Face The Music and Dance – Keeping Folk Dancing Vibrant As We Age" by Paul Wagner

Many long-time international folk dancers who started dancing in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s are now significantly older. Injuries, health issues and general aging affect how we dance. How does the aging of the long-time dance population affect our international dance groups in general? Has the aging of dancers affected your group, and how? What strategies can be used to keep dance groups energetic and active given this aging? How can we create dance group environments that are interesting and stimulating for both older dances and younger dancers? We’ll discuss these questions and others in the Saturday Group Leader Discussion, and generate a list of positive ideas that we can all use to keep our groups vibrant as dancers age. Each participant will receive a sheet with some initial ideas and strategies regarding these issues, and will be able to add other ideas from our discussion.

Do you have any ideas related to this topic in general or to the questions posted above?

Please send your initial thoughts to Paul Wagner at , and we’ll include these in the list of ideas to be distributed to participants for discussion.
